2023 Annual Letter

  • by

Dear Friends and Family,

Happy holidays to each of you! We remain so grateful for your contributions to the Ben Lucas Foundation and the opportunity to impact the lives of those who desperately need it.

This past year, we provided $27,000 in scholarships thanks to your generous support. We have committed to funding an additional $30,000 in scholarships this month and next to our trusted partners, primarily supporting the insurance co-pays of 5 individuals, who would drop from their recovery programs without our commitment. You can read about their situations below along with the other grants we’ve made.

ARCHway Institute – supported scholarships at Healing Transitions in Raleigh, NC. “Our mission is to offer innovative peer-based, recovery-oriented services to homeless, uninsured and underserved individuals with alcoholism and other drug addictions. Our program is specifically designed to rekindle a person’s desire and ability to return to a meaningful and productive life.”

Came to Believe Recovery – funded scholarships for those suffering from homelessness and addiction to attend a NYC based retreat that provides shelter, food, and education.

Tulip Hill Recovery – offers drug and alcohol rehab in the Nashville, TN area.  “Our family-run facility provides emphatic support to those struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health issues. We are also here for the families of those who struggle, as we understand the importance of healing the entire family in recovery.”

  • 25 year old male that is currently on his family’s insurance. The client’s parents are also in active addiction and do not speak to the client. This client has been with us for 10 days and drug of choice is fentanyl. The client is excited to create his own life separate from his family and is starting to understand that he can create his own life consisting of boundaries with his parents. We will assist him with having a job and sober living set up for housing prior to his completion.

  • 36 year old female that is currently insured through her employer. The client has been with us for 18 days. This client was homeless for months when she came to us and living in a shelter in Nashville. She was working from her phone remote in the shelter and random locations that she could do her job. All of her money went to her addiction and phone bill. This client’s drug of choice is heroin. The client’s employer has allowed her to take time away from the job while in treatment. The client does not have money or support to cover her deductible. We will set this client up with housing for post treatment.

  • 25 year old male that admitted today. He is currently on his family’s insurance plan. The family stated that he would have to leave on 12/31/23 because they are not able to cover his deductible when it resets. They asked about grant based IOP programs at that time if we were unable to figure something out. This client’s drug of choice is heroin and he has reported needing to work through some trauma he has experienced in his life and is excited about EMDR therapy here at Tulip Hill.

  • 32 year old female that is currently in detox in Brentwood, TN and is transferring to our facility. We spoke to the client about her ability to pay for her deductible at the beginning of the year and she is unable to do so. The client reports that her family has not spoken to her in over a year and she has no additional support. The client’s drugs of choice are Xanax and opiates. The client was recently arrested for possession.

  • 45 year old male that lost his job and is currently utilizing COBRA. The client has been with us for 15 days and is highly motivated for his treatment. The client drugs of choice are alcohol and opiates.

With gratitude,

The Ben Lucas Foundation
