2021 Update

  • by

Dear Friends and Family,

Thanks to your generosity, we are excited to announce that we raised a record amount of $62,645 in the month of December! Since the start of the new year, we have deployed nearly half of this money to the following partners:

Tulip Hill Recovery – 6 scholarships for individuals who are under its care, yet unable to pay for 2022 services due to reset deductibles. Below is a brief glimpse into their situations (names redacted).

ARCHway’s Institute’s Holiday Hope Campaign – this grant provides financial assistance to individuals who do not have the financial means to afford a recovery program (read more).

The following stories may be hard to read, however we believe it’s important to share the real, raw challenges these individuals have and will continue to face. Thank you for joining us in fighting the stigma of addiction and supporting recovery. Your help will have generational impact as these individuals are offered freedom from addiction.

  • 23 year old female in Jackson. Client is from Germantown, TN and her drug of choice is heroin. She has been using it daily for three years. She currently is in the headspace of being “ready and willing” to change but not sure she is able. She has one current charge for possession of Xanax and heroin and has yet to receive sentencing. She has severe trauma from losing 4 people to addiction this year and witnessing an overdose and death of her boyfriend. Her mother is still supportive but no longer had funds to help her daughter. Client has no clear goals at this point on what she would like to do with her life, we will be working through this as her self-esteem builds throughout treatment.

  • 44 year old female in Murfreesboro. Client is motivated for treatment. She is from Lexington, TN. Client has severe trauma in her life and suffers from PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Major Depressive Disorder co-occuring with her substance use disorder. She realizes that she uses opiates to cope with her mental health as she has never appropriately addressed it in the past. She lost her job due to her addiction and is unable to afford her deductible as a result. The client’s drug of choice is opiates. The client is motivated for change and has done well in our program. We are assisting her with being able to return to work in the nursing field through TNPAP.

  • 40 year old female in Murfreesboro. This client is from Killen, AL. Her drugs of choice are Xanax and opiates. She is an alumni of our program and completed successfully the first time for 90 days. She has a major depressive disorder and bi-polar I co-occurring with her substance use disorders. She had a relapse after having surgery and was given pain medication that her family was monitoring.  She said she started “doctor shopping” for medication behind her family’s back. She stated that it got out of control very quickly and she knew she needed help sooner but did not want to reach out. She has committed to 90 days of treatment with us. I know her case pretty well from our last time having her and she is a very sweet lady that is motivated for the help.

  • 47 year old female in Murfreesboro. Her drugs of choice are alcohol and opiates. She has experienced both sexual and physical abuse in her life. She was never able to connect this abuse to her drinking and drug use as her coping mechanism until treatment. She has another month with us for sure and a possible month after that. She has never been to treatment or therapy and has learned about the disease of addiction and been able to see why she has made some of the choices she has made. She is putting $1,500 towards the $5,000 total she would need but this is all that she had. She is motivated for change.

  • 22 year old male in Jackson. Client is from Mt Juliet, TN. His drug of choice is heroin and fentanyl. This client has 3 prior overdoses and has been to treatment prior to us. (he had been to facilities that did not provide good services to their clients and was shuttled in and out of facilities). This created a wall and lack of trust for treatment in general, which took us some time to work through. He has been grateful for the opportunity to be at Tulip Hill. He has had a lot of growth since being with us and shows a clear motivation to want to stay sober. He will be with us for a couple of more months by utilizing the donation. This client’s parents are no longer supporting him financially.

  • 43 year old female in Murfreesboro. Client is from Ashland, TN. This client’s drug of choice is opiates and heroin. She has just recently been admitted with us and has committed to 60 days of treatment at this point. The client needs support financially as she reports not having anyone to support her outside of her insurance. She seems willing at this stage of treatment based on her early interactions with her peers and therapist. We will begin some trauma work with her in a week or so when she is settled and a bit more stable.

With gratitude,

The Ben Lucas Foundation
